RIPE and BTK building in Ankara Training sessions in Turkey

The Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC), in collaboration with Turkish regulator Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK), successfully delivered a workshop aimed at increasing awareness of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), as well as measurements and tools that the RIPE NCC provides for network operators. The workshop, which was held at the BTK Headquarters in Ankara recently, and was attended by local Internet service providers (ISPs), telecom operators, BTK and other related organizations.

During the three-day event, RIPE NCC experts conducted three courses intended for local, regional and international participants. Programs included a ‘Basic IPv6 Training Course,’ which focused on planning IPv6 deployment; ‘IPv6 Security Training Course,’ which centered on providing participants with a key overview of timely IPv6 security topics and a ‘Measurements and Tools Training Course,’ which served as an introduction to RIPEstat and RIPE Atlas.

Abdullah Cemil Akçam, Senior Associate at BTK, said, “BTK remains steadfast in its commitment to support the ongoing efforts to expand Internet connectivity. We are pleased at the success of this collaborative event with RIPE NCC that we hosted in our training center. The workshop highlighted the importance of capacity building, which is seen as an essential component for technological advancements. BTK continues in its efforts to promote IPv6 deployment, as the shift to this new Internet protocol can translate to further Internet development and economic growth for the country.”

The workshop proved to be both timely and strategic, as it was held against a backdrop of rising IPv6 deployment on networks around the world. In fact, a recent report from Google shows that more than 30 per cent of Internet users globally now access its services via IPv6 connectivity.

Chafic Chaya, Regional Communications Manager at the RIPE NCC, was also enthusiastic. “We applaud BTK's efforts to highlight the importance of making the shift to IPv6, through trainings and workshops that support understanding and formulate key actions that can drive faster deployment of IPv6 in Turkey. IPv6 plays an important role in the further development of the Internet sector and has a growing influence in many economic and social domains globally. We look forward to continuing our work with BTK to support engagement across all stakeholders in capacity building, especially now as Turkey continues on the path of digital transformation,”

RIPE NCC continues to play an active role in the move to promote sustainable development and economic growth, particularly through its integrated services and initiatives that help network operators to cope with rapid transformation and meet future needs of the future through training workshops, conferences and meetings.
