The second local antenna of the Mediterranean Women Peace Mediators (MWMN) network has been inaugurated in Istanbul.
MWMN is sponsored by the Italian Foreign Ministry and works on the front lines to promote and sustain women's participation in the peace process.
For the inauguration of the Turkish antenna, a workshop was held by the Istanbul Policy Centre and the EU delegation to Ankara to discuss issues regarding the role of women in mediation processes, in order to facilitate the creation of a local community of women mediators in Turkey. During the workshop, which was opened by the Italian ambassador to Turkey Massimo Gaiani, topics included the importance of mediation from a gender perspective in areas such as violence.
The workshop gave the chance for representatives from Turkey, the broadest Mediterranean region, to dialogue with representatives from other European countries and share opinions and debate on the role of women in peace-building processes.
