Cairo will host the 12th International Congress of Egyptology in November 2019 which will be organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and the International Association of Egyptologists.
Dr. Mostafa Waziri, the
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said Egypt won the
organization and host of the 2019 congress during its 11th session that was
held at Italy's Florence Museum of
Antiquities in 2015.
The Congress is one of the
most important scientific conferences in the field of Egyptology in the world
that held periodically every four years at one of the world countries to
discuss the latest Egyptological researches.
He added that this is the third session to be held in Egypt. The first two was in 1988 and 2000.
Two committees were formed
to prepare and organize the event.The Scientific Committee is led by Dr. Ola
Al-Ogaizy, the former Head of the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, and
with the membership of directors of foreign institutes in Egypt and Egyptology
professors from various international and Egyptian universities.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ebeid -
who will chair the Organization Committee - said that the conference will
discuss different topics such as the history of Ancient Egypt, the history of
Egyptology, the definition of modern methods used in archaeological excavations,
the management of archaeological sites, conservation, archaeological and
technological sciences, archaeological museums, art, architecture, language and
literature, and religious beliefs and social life in ancient Egypt.
He added that topics on the challenges and problems that the antiquities in Egypt are facing and its solutions will be discussed.
A number of sightseeing
tours will be organized to museums and archaeological sites in Cairo and Giza.
Dr. Hisham El-Leithy, the head
of the Central Department of Archaeology and a member of the board of the
International Association of Egyptian Scientists, said that the Ministry of
Antiquities has issued the logo of the conference, which shows one of the
important artifacts of King Tutankhamun.
It also launched the
Congress website:www.ice12cairo.moantiq.gov.eg. where the abstract of the papers will
be received from 19 June 2018. Deadline is in October 2018.
