Egypt's exports to Africa up 24.5% in 1st four months of 2018

Egyptian exports to African states climbed 24.5% to register $1.273 billion in the first four months of 2018 against $1.21 billion in the same period in 2017.

Egypt exports to the EU upped 17% in the first four months of 2018 to record $ 2.393 billion against $2.04 billion in the corresponding period in 2017.

The volume of Egypt's foreign trade upped 12% to stand at $ 29.357 million in the first four months of 2018 against $ 26.138 million in the same period in 2017.

Non-petroleum exports rose by 16% in the four months to register $ 8.644 billion against $ 7.432 billion in the corresponding period in 2017, according to a report which the trade minister received from the General Organization For Export and Import Control.

Trade Minister Tareq Qabil said the positive indicators of the Egyptian foreign trade movement proves the success of the ministry's 2020 strategy for promoting foreign trade.

The ministry seeks to open new markets, expand the already existing ones and magnify the benefit of free trade agreements with various world countries.

The report noted that chemical and fertilizers exports ratcheted up 27.6% to record $1.668 billion in the first four months of 2018 against $ 1.307 billion in the same period in 2017.

The handicraft exports hit $ 72 million in the four months, marking a 20% rise in comparison with the same period in 2017.

Ready-made clothes exports augmented by 14.5% to stand at $ 511 million against $ 447 million in the corresponding period in 2017.

Construction materials exports leapfrogged by 10.5% to stand at $ 2.62 billion in the four months against $ 1.867 billion in the same period in 2017.

Textile exports hit $ 295 million in the first four months of 2018, at an 8.3% uptick in comparison with the same period in 2017.

Exports of agricultural crops posted $ 1.9 billion at a 5.3% rise in comparison with the same period in 2017.

Chairman of the General Organization For Export and Import Control Ismail Gaber  said markets of the member states of the Aghadir Agreement were top importers of Egyptian products over the first four months of 2018. Egyptian exports to Aghadir agreement member states, including Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco, stood at $505 million against $ 365 million during the same period in 2017, marking a 38.3% rise.

Gaber noted that the UK, US, Spain, Russia, the UAE and Jordan were among top importers of Egyptian products.
