The exhibition “Coral reefs, a challenge for Humanity” kicked off in Paris on Saturday and will last until August 30.
Within the context of World Oceans Day on June 8, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO organized this public event.
The event celebrates the International Year of the Reef (IYOR) and calls the attention of all on these precious but threatened ecosystems. This large format, immersive and multimedia exhibition demonstrates the beauty of these jewels of biodiversity and presents scientific missions, highlighting the importance of preserving the coral reefs of all oceans.
The exhibition aims to explain the services provided by coral reefs to humanity and raise awareness about the different agressions which jeopardize them.
It also presents the work of scientists and managers of marine protected areas who study corals.
