Deputy Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Hiroshi Kuniyoshi, currently visiting Ljubljana, had talks on Tuesday with Director-General for Economic and Public Diplomacy at the Slovenian Foreign Ministry Alenka Suhadolnik means of enhancing cooperation for the implementation of sustainable development goal no 9 (SDG 9) on industry innovation and infrastructure.
Suhadolnik emphasized the strategic cooperation needed to advance the 2030 Development Agenda and the implementation of SDG9.
The two sides discussed Slovenia’s long-term interests, including its focus on contributing to sustainable economic growth of neighboring countries and of Africa.
Meanwhile, Kuniyoshi held a meeting with Jožka Hegler, Director of the Technology Park Ljubljana, the largest innovation ecosystem for the commercialization of knowledge and technology in South-Eastern Europe.
The two sides tackled smart processes, creative industries, digitalization and training.
agreed that such parks are strategic hubs to foster innovation-driven economic
growth. Parks are also essential to accelerate the shift towards greater
resource efficiency and sustainability.
The Institute Jozef Štefan, the leading Slovenian scientific research institute, welcomed Kuniyoshi, who discussed with Director Jadran Lenarčič potential areas of common interest such as industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, smart digitalization, future of work, robotics, etc. as innovative approaches to optimize production operations, climate change mitigation and circular economy development.
The Institute and UNIDO agreed to advance their cooperation.
