One third of women experience “hair thinning” or miniaturization of the hair follicles by the mid‐30’s in age. Many women notice the hairs are short and wispy on the temples, and they think this is breakage, but rather it is “miniaturization” or aging of the hair. As hair “ages” it decreases skin thickness and length and if left untreated, 40% of women will experience ‘scalp show’ in their mid‐40’s, which is cosmetically unacceptable and psychologically disturbing.
This overwhelming percentage of 40% was discovered by the statistics from the American Hair Loss Association. Triggers of hair loss in women include, but are not limited to: Hormonal imbalances, stress and emotional trauma, thyroid and iron store abnormalities, overuse of chemical treatments of the hair, and of course, Age. As we age, most hair is reduced either in the form of: Balding, receding or thinning. Genetics, as well as drastic dietary changes can contribute to an overall blunting of hair growth. At the last American Academy of Dermatology, it was also highlighted that a diet with a high Kale intake, which is a common edition to salads, can surprisingly contribute to hair fall.
Like most other ailments, the longer we delay treatments, the less likely we
can achieve full recovery of hair growth. Luckily, due to a new wave of
supplements, in office treatments and “at home” solutions, we are able to
tackle the balding plight amongst men and women. I would like to emphasize for
women, in particular, hair transplant is not recommended. Here are 4 ways to
achieve thicker, healthier head of hair. 1. Incorporate Supplements Into Your
The battle for many starts, and even ends, with nutritional supplements. Supplements can be tremendously helpful as they strengthen the hair from the inside out. The two most popular nutritional supplements in the United States are: Nutrafol and viviscal. The sugar bear hair supplements are also gaining in momentum as well. In the Middle East, Pantogar and Priorin are widely prescribed, but my recommendation is in the French Product inversion, as it suppresses appetite in addition to growing hair.
A recent and innovative addition in the U.S. nutraceutical market is the Ouai’s Thin pack, which uses amino acids to promote stronger hair Keratin. 2. Treat excessive dandruff by exfoliating your scalp:
Exfoliating of the scalp with medicated shampoo removes debris that ‘clogs the hair follicles’ while simultaneously removing the hormone DHT, that is the major hormone involved in hair miniaturization and hair loss. The products I recommend for this are from La roche posay Kerium line and in particular, the anti‐hard water spray after shower treatment. Even selsun blue shampoo is ideal for this matter of scalp exfoliation. Another amazing product for exfoliation of scalp is the Phyto C hair repair tonic, which has a cocktail of exfoliating vitamins that add luster to the hair.
