During a meeting, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Chief
Commissioner Nasser Shraideh and Iraqi Transport Minister Kadhim Al-Hammami tackled means of drawing up a feasibility study on the Asian railway network.
The talks also reviewed means of facilitating truck movement to reach
Al-Hammami said there are joint potentials between Jordan and Iraq to promote bilateral
cooperation in various domains, especially in the maritime, air and land transportation
Al-Hammami said Jordan
and Iraq agreed to exchange
expertise and getting Iraq
to draw in Jordan's
experience in operating harbors.
He highlighted the role of the Arab Bridge Shipping Company - which includes Iraq, Egypt, Jordan – in promoting Arab maritime transportation.
Meanwhile, Shraideh highlighted the importance of using Aqaba as a gateway
for Iraqi goods to enhance economic integration through utilizing the Tureibil
border crossing and launching regular air freight routes between Aqaba and each
of Baghdad, Sulaymaniyah and Basra to boost Iraqi tourism to Aqaba.
